Children's Classes

Hands-on art projects designed to build confidence, spark imagination, and help kids discover their own creative voice.

LANDSCAPE DRAWING AND PAINTING

“En plein aire” is a French expression which means “in the open air” and is used to describe painting outdoors in natural light. Students will spend time sketching and exploring a variety of painting and drawing mediums and techniques in their study and appreciation of the beauty of nature. Final work to be executed from sketches in child’s medium of choice on canvas.

FAIRIES-GNOMES-PIXIES-TROLLS-ELVES

Like stardust glistening on fairy wings, young girl dreams are magical things! Students will create a character to reside in a home they will build from a variety of materials. Every home needs a fairy broom to protect it from intruders. Tiny felted mushrooms are believed to invite friends, and a rainbow chime will announce guests coming to share a bit of fairy bread.

LAND OF THE
DINOSAURS

Get ready to bring the prehistoric world to life! Students will design and sculpt their own 3D dinosaurs, then build the lost world they call home — complete with an ACTIVE volcano, towering glaciers, dense forests, and ancient seas. Through hands-on sculpting and imaginative world-building, kids will develop real dimensional art skills while creating a landscape that's entirely their own.

PET PORTRAITS

Every pet has a personality worth capturing. Students will draw, then paint a detailed portrait of their pet or favorite animal on an oversized canvas, learning to observe and translate small details — fur texture, expression, color — into a bold work of art. Please bring a few detailed close-up photocopies of your pet or animal to work from.

INTERIOR DESIGN

What does your dream room look like? Students will be introduced to architectural design concepts and techniques, then put them to work planning and constructing a scale model of their own dream room using a variety of materials. Part design challenge, part hands-on building project, this class turns imagination into something students can actually hold in their hands.

DRAWING DISCOVERIES

Start or continue your drawing journey. Explore a variety of drawing mediums (graphite, charcoal, pastel, colored pencil, etc.), utilizing drawing techniques such as line, value, blending, shading and composition.

Students will work creating various themes: STILL LIFE, LANDSCAPE, ANIMALS, CARTOONS, and PEOPLE.

STICKS and STONES

Using natural materials that only nature can provide (and WE collect) students will create from a BUNCH of fun stuff: a walking stick, a wall hanging, wrapped and painted rocks, a dream catcher and stone mosaics, jewelry, and mandalas.

Connect with nature in a mindful and creative way.

Make and Play GAMES!

Foosball, Skeeball, Pinball, Marble Labyrinth, board games, lawn games...and more! Students will design and build their own playable games using recycled materials, learning to problem-solve as they figure out how each game needs to move, bounce, or roll. By the end, students won't just have a project to show — they'll have a game the whole family can actually play.

MADE OF PAPER

Students will delight in the creative opportunities that paper offers. Projects to choose from include a book, a basket, a chandelier, a potted plant, a framed heART for your room made from paper pulp, paper bowls, and collaged animal puppets. Each project explores a different paper technique, showing students just how versatile a single material can be.

RE-THINK! RECYCLE-REUSE

Using a multitude of "trash" objects — boxes, paper towel tubes, bags, and more — students will create a fantastic animal, robot, mask, or invention entirely from their imagination. This class is all about seeing everyday materials in a new way, turning what would normally be thrown out into something completely original. It's creative problem-solving at its best: no fancy supplies required, just curiosity and a good eye for possibility.

SELF-PORTRAITS

Students will be guided in the placement of facial features using chalk pastel, learning to observe and translate their own likeness onto paper. A value study using light, medium, and dark tones will add depth and dimension to each student's portrait. Along the way, students build real observational drawing skills while creating a personal, expressive piece that's uniquely their own and representative of their identity.

FELT GEODES

Using a wet felting technique, students will layer color upon color to create a stunning geode effect, mimicking the natural bands and crystal-like beauty of real stone. This hands-on process is as calming as it is colorful, and it's especially great for building fine motor skills.

Students will leave with a one-of-a-kind piece that looks like it was pulled straight from the earth.

NEEDLE FELTING

It's like painting — but with wool! Using a simple needle felting technique, students will layer and shape wool fibers to create texture, color, and form, much the way a painter builds up layers of paint. It's a hands-on, meditative process that results in soft, dimensional artwork unlike anything made with a brush.
